The Week Ahead: Sept. 5-10

APPLETON, Wis. -- It's a busy week for the Vikings as they will play 15 events over a span of five days.

Volleyball makes its home debut when the Vikings host Marian University on Wednesday, and women's soccer has home matches on Wednesday and Friday on Ron Roberts Field in the Banta Bowl. Women's tennis plays takes on rival Ripon College on Thursday and then has three home matches this weekend.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (0-2-0)

Opponent: Lawrence vs. Lakeland University (1-1-0)

When and Where: Wednesday, Sept. 6, 4 p.m., Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

Series Record: Lawrence is unbeaten against Lakeland with a 9-0-0 mark in a series that goes back to 1993.

Opponent: Lawrence vs. Gustavus Adolphus College (1-1-0)

When and Where: Friday, Sept. 8, 7 p.m., Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

Series Record: This is the first meeting between the teams.

Fast Fact: The Vikings started a very young team this past weekend. Lawrence had seven newcomers in the starting lineup in the opener and nine newcomers in the second match of the season.

MEN'S SOCCER (1-1-0)

Opponent: Lawrence at MSOE (1-1-0)

When and Where: Wednesday, Sept. 6, 7 p.m., Viets Field, Milwaukee, Wis.

Series Record: Lawrence holds a 10-9-4 lead in a series that dates back to 1983. MSOE has won the last two games, and Lawrence's last victory was a 1-0 win in 2010.

When and Where: Sunday, Sept. 10, 1 p.m., Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.

Series Record: This is the first meeting between the teams.

Fast Fact: Rookie midfielder Nicholas Jatta was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week after breaking a Lawrence record with four assists in the season opener against Lakeland. Jatta assisted on all four Lawrence tallies to break the game record of three, which was held by five players.

Opponent: Lawrence vs. Marian University (1-0)

When and Where: Wednesday, Sept. 6, 7 p.m., Alexander Gymnasium.

Series Record: Lawrence holds a 25-17 lead in a series that dates to 1980. The Vikings defeated Marian in four sets a season ago.

Event: UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic

Opponents: Lawrence vs. Martin Luther College, Friday, Sept. 8, 3:30 p.m.; Lawrence vs. UW-Stout, Friday, Sept. 8, 5:30 p.m.; Lawrence vs. Washington (Mo.) University, Saturday, Sept. 9, 9:30 a.m.; Lawrence vs. Concordia University Wisconsin, Saturday, Sept. 9, 3:30 p.m.

Series Record: The Vikings trail in the series with all four of these opponents. Martin Luther has a 3-1 advantage, and Stout has a 4-1 edge. WashU has a 1-0 lead, and Concordia owns a 5-3 advantage.

Fast Fact: Junior outside hitter Arianna Neumeyer was named to the all-tournament team at the Austin College Classic last weekend. Neumeyer helped the Vikings to a 2-2 record while posting 4.1 kills and 4.2 digs per set.

When and Where: Sunday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m., Lawrence Courts.

Fast Fact: Lawrence takes on traditional rival Ripon pretty early in the season, and the Vikings are putting a long win streak on the line. Lawrence has defeated Ripon 13 consecutive times dating back to the 2004 season.

CROSS COUNTRY

Event: Ken Weidt Classic

When and Where: Saturday, Sept. 2, 11 a.m., Concordia University Wisconsin campus, Mequon, Wis.

Fast Fact: Lawrence recorded a pair of runner-up finishes in the season opener at the Tom Barry Invitational. Both Josh Janusiak and Hannah Kinzer finished second in their respective races. It was the highest career cross country finisher for Kinzer. Junior Ben Schaefer finished the four-mile course in 23:00, and that marks the third consecutive year that Schaefer has run the exact same time at the Tom Barry.

FOOTBALL (0-1)

Opponent: Lawrence at Finlandia University (0-1)

When and Where: Saturday, Sept. 9, 1 p.m. Eastern time, McAfee Field, Hancock, Mich.

Series Record: This is the second meeting between the teams. Lawrence defeated the Lions 14-5 in 2016 in the Banta Bowl.

Fast Fact: Lawrence sophomore cornerback Terrell Myers Jr., recorded his first career interception in the season opener against Presentation, and Myers also returned that for his defensive touchdown. Myers returned a kickoff for a touchdown as a rookie in 2016.
