The Week Ahead: Oct. 9-15

APPLETON, Wis. -- It's Fall Festival this week, and the Lawrence University Intercollegiate Athletic Hall of Fame induction highlights the week's events. The 1967 football team will be inducted on Friday, and Lawrence takes on Macalester College in the homecoming football game Saturday on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.    

VOLLEYBALL (8-12, 3-1 MWC)

Opponent: Lawrence vs. Beloit (6-12, 1-2 MWC)

When and Where: Tuesday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m., Alexander Gymnasium

Series Record: Beloit holds a 12-10 edge in the series dating back to 1999, but Lawrence has won the last five matches with the Bucs.

Series Record: Lake Forest has a 14-6 edge in the series in games dating to 1999. Lawrence has won the last two meetings against the Foresters.

Fast Fact: Lawrence defeated Monmouth and Knox in marathon five-set matches last Friday and Saturday. That marked the first time since the opening matches of the 2006 season that Lawrence had won back-to-back five-set matches. The Vikings beat North Park and North Central 3-2 to open the 2006 season.

MEN'S SOCCER (1-10-0, 0-4-0 MWC)

Opponent: Lawrence at Ripon (2-10-1, 0-4-0 MWC)

Series Record: In a series that goes back to 1974, Lawrence holds a 33-17-2 edge over Ripon. Lawrence is on a four-match win streak in the rivalry.

Fast Fact: Senior forward Ryan Berkley posted her first career hat trick in Lawrence's 5-0 win over Rockford this past Saturday. Berkley picked up one goal in the first half and then added two in quick succession in the second half. She also tacked on an assist on Lawrence's final goal.

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS (6-11, 4-5 MWC)

Event: Midwest Conference Championships

When and Where: Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14-15, all day, Nielsen Tennis Stadium, Madison, Wis.

Fast Fact: Lawrence wraps up its fall season at the Midwest Conference Championships, and what the Vikings lack in numbers, they have made up for in grit. With a squad of just seven players, Lawrence picked up six dual victories. Top singles player Lindsay Holsen has battled to a 10-7 record and a 9-8 doubles mark with Katie Nottberg.

When and Where: Saturday, Oct. 14, 10:30 a.m., Lake Breeze Golf Course, Winneconne, Wis.

Fast Fact: Lawrence star Josh Janusiak is going for his fourth consecutive victory of the season, but he faces an elite field on Saturday. Janusiak has won at the Gene Davis Invitational, Brissman-Lundeen Invitational and Ken Weidt Classic in the last month. Teammates Hannah Kinzer and Joe Kortenhof were named Midwest Conference Performers of the Week, and this is the second time this season Lawrence has swept the weekly awards.

FOOTBALL (1-4, 0-1 MWC North)

Opponent: Lawrence vs. Macalester (3-2, 1-0 MWC North)

When and Where: Saturday, Oct. 14, 1 p.m., Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl

Series Record: In a series that goes back to 1948, Macalester holds an 8-4 advantage. Lawrence's last win over the Scots was a 35-7 victory in 2004.

Fast Fact: Lawrence will honor its undefeated 1967 football team at halftime of the game vs. Macalester. The 1967 squad will be inducted into the Lawrence Hall of Fame on Friday. That team went 8-0, had two All-Americans and more than 25 percent of the team (11 players) were named to the All-Midwest Conference team.
