APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University football team renews Wisconsin's oldest college rivalry when the Vikings take on Ripon College on Saturday on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl. This is the 117th meeting between the teams. Lawrence hockey opens its season on Friday when the Vikings face Adrian College, and Lawrence wraps up the weekend by taking on Northern Collegiate Hockey Association newcomer Trine University.

Fast Fact: Lawrence had its first dual meet of the season with the women doubling up Ripon 134-67. Elise Riggle, Erin Lengel and Emmi Zheng all won two individual events for the Vikings.

Fast Fact: Lawrence opens its season with Adrian, which was ranked No. 1 in the first poll of the season. The other matchup of the opening weekend is Trine, which is a school from Indiana playing its first season of intercollegiate hockey.

Series Record: The oldest college football rivalry in Wisconsin, the Lawrence vs. Ripon series started in 1893 and the teams have met 116 times. Ripon holds a 63-46-7 advantage in the series and have won 17 straight. Lawrence's last win was a 25-22 victory in the Banta Bowl in 1999.

Fast Fact: Lawrence vs. Ripon is one of two trophy games in the Midwest Conference. The Vikings and Red Hawks play for the Doehling-Heselton Memorial Trophy, named in honor of former Lawrence coach Bernie Heselton and former Ripon coach Carl Doehling. The other trophy game being contested this weekend is the Bronze Turkey Game between Knox and Monmouth.
