The Week Ahead: February 11-17

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University swimming and diving teams head to the Midwest Conference Championships this weekend in Grinnell, Iowa, in search of some hardware. Lawrence has multiple swimmers and divers in the mix for individual titles. Lawrence men's basketball remains alive for a berth in the Midwest Conference Tournament, but the Vikings will need a pair of wins this week and some help to get in the four-team tourney.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (6-16, 3-13 MWC)

Opponent: Lawrence at St. Norbert (10-13, 9-7)

When and Where: Wednesday, Feb. 13, 5:30 p.m., Mulva Center, De Pere, Wis.

Series Record: In a series that started in the 1975-76 season, St. Norbert has a 75-13 lead over the Vikings.

Opponent: Lawrence at Illinois College (9-14, 5-11)

When and Where: Saturday, Feb. 16, 1 p.m., Sherman Gymnasium, Jacksonville, Ill.

Series Record: In a series that started in the 1991-92 season, Illinois College has a 22-21 lead over Lawrence. The Vikings have won the last three games against the Lady Blues.

Fast Fact: Lawrence collected a 64-57 overtime win over Cornell this past Saturday and swept the season series from the Rams in the process. One key reason for the win, other than the double-double from senior Leah Reeves, was Lawrence's enormous advantage at the foul line. The Vikings were 19-of-26 from the stripe while the Rams were 1-for-2.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (11-12, 8-8 MWC)

Opponent: Lawrence at St. Norbert (17-6, 15-1)

When and Where: Wednesday, Feb. 13, 7:30 p.m., Mulva Center, De Pere, Wis.

Series Record: In a series that dates back to 1918, St. Norbert holds a 62-46 lead over the Vikings.

Opponent: Lawrence at Illinois College (7-16, 5-11)

When and Where: Saturday, Feb. 16, 3 p.m., Sherman Gymnasium, Jacksonville, Ill.

Series Record: Lawrence holds a 39-10 advantage over Illinois College in a series that goes back to the 1985-86 season. The Vikings have won 15 straight over the Blueboys.

Fast Fact: Lawrence remains alive for a berth in the Midwest Conference Tournament with two games left to play. The Vikings need to win the final two games and then await the outcomes of the final two contest for Ripon and Monmouth. Lawrence is currently one game behind both teams for the fourth and final tournament spot.

Fast Fact: Lawrence heads to the Midwest Conference Championships with a strong squad in search of multiple individual titles. The women's team has multiple title contenders in Erin Lengel, Mizuki Ohama, Caitlyn Lansing, Elise Riggle and Maddy Smith, and Anton Hutchinson, the defending conference champ in the 1,650-yard freestyle, leads the men's contingent.

Series Record: Lawrence has a 9-5 advantage over Concordia in a series that started in 2001.

When and Where: Saturday, Feb. 16, 10 a.m., Sports Core, Kohler, Wis.

Series Record: Lawrence is 15-0 against the Muskies in a series that dates to 1966.

Fast Fact: Lawrence rookie Cam Strawn picked up his first collegiate victory when he topped Kevin Dunn of Carthage at No. 6 singles this past Saturday. Strawn split the first two sets and then won a super tiebreaker to capture the match.
