APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University has canceled the remainder of its spring sports seasons, the university announced Friday.
The spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country prompted this action by the university. Multiple colleges and conferences around the country have also made this difficult decision.
The NCAA announced Thursday that all of its remaining winter and spring championships have been canceled. The Midwest Conference announced Friday that league competition and the league's spring championships have been suspended indefinitely.
This marks the first time that Lawrence has canceled multiple sporting events in a season since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Lawrence hasn't been forced to cancel sporting events due to a public health crisis since a polio outbreak in Appleton in 1955.
