JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Lawrence University baseball team rallied in the ninth inning Saturday, but Loras College held off the Vikings for a 5-3 nonconference win at Lenz Field.
A four-run third inning proved to be the difference for the Duhawks, who improved to 2-0 on the season.
Robert Hovey and Aidan Wojciehowski combined to allow just five hits. Hovey went five innings to get the win, and Wojciehowski pitched the final four innings for the save. Mike Brady pitched seven innings for Lawrence (1-4) and took the loss.
Nolan Spencer went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run to pace the Vikings.
Lawrence led 1-0 after Spencer scored in the top of the third, but Loras got a run-scoring triple and a run-scoring double to score four times in the bottom half of the inning.
The Vikings trailed 5-1 heading to the ninth before they rallied. Spencer delivered a run-scoring single, and Zach Rabideau followed with another run-scoring single to cut the lead to 5-3. The Vikings had runners at the corners with two outs, but Wojciehowski got a strikeout to end the game.
