JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Lawrence University baseball team pulled away early Sunday and cruised to a 10-4 nonconference victory over Eureka College at Lenz Field
Travis Weber went 4-for-5 and drove in four runs, and Matthew Holliday was 3-for-3 with three runs scored for the Vikings (2-5). Rudy Mueller-Schrader collected a pair of hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in three, and Nolan Spencer had two hits for Lawrence.
Daniel Bonsanti allowed five hits and four runs over six innings to earn his first collegiate victory. Isaiah Taylor gave up seven runs in two innings and took the loss for the Red Devils (0-1).
Lawrence grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first with the help of a pair of infield singles, a wild pitch and a couple of stolen bases.
The Vikings then surged to a 7-1 lead with five runs in the second. Zach Rabideau delivered a run-scoring single for a 3-1 edge, and Pat McDonnell later drew a bases-loaded walk for a 4-1 lead. Weber then smacked a two-run single, and Mueller-Schrader followed with a run-scoring single for a 7-1 advantage.
The Vikings were up by five in the fourth when Mueller-Schrader belted a two-run homer for a 9-2 lead.
Eureka cut the lead to 9-4 in the fifth, but the Vikings added an insurance run in the eighth on Weber's RBI single to close out the scoring.
