AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Third-ranked UW-Whitewater scored in all but two innings Friday and shut the door on a pair of Lawrence University rallies for a 9-4 nonconference win.
The Warhawks led 3-0 after three innings, pulled out to a 5-1 lead after six innings and sealed the win with three runs in the seventh.
Sam Heilenbach scattered five hits over five innings, allowed one run, struck out six and walked one to get the win for Whitewater (4-0). Daytona Bryden went 4-for-4 and scored three runs to pace the Warhawks, and Cal Aldridge was 2-for-2, scored twice and drove in three runs.
Kyle Duex gave up 10 hits over six innings, struck out three and walked three for the Vikings (4-10).
Reno Zemrak went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run for Lawrence, and Rudy Mueller-Schrader was 2-for-5 with a run scored and a run batted in. Nolan Spencer also collected a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Vikings.
Lawrence trailed 4-1 in the top of the fifth, but the Vikings had a run in and runners at second and third with one out before Heilenbach regrouped. He struck out the next two hitters to end the threat.
The Vikings finally pulled closer in with three runs in the eighth as Mueller-Schrader and Zemrak both picked up run-scoring singles in the inning. The Vikings still had the bases loaded with no one out before Weston Muir retired the next three hitters with no further damage.
Lawrence wraps up its spring break trip on Saturday when the Vikings face Juniata College.
