GALESBURG, Ill. -- Patrick McDonnell homered and drove in four runs Saturday to lead the Lawrence University baseball team to a 15-5 seven-inning Midwest Conference win over Knox College at Blodgett Field.
The game was part of the Midwest Conference Crossover Tournament.
McDonnell finished 3-for-4, including a two-run homer, and finished with four runs batted in. Matthew Holliday went 4-for-5 with a double, drove in two runs and scored three times for Lawrence (10-11, 3-1 MWC).
Kyle Duex allowed five hits and three runs over six innings to pick up the win. He struck out six and walked four.
The Vikings scored single runs in each of the first three innings, and the game was tied 3-3 heading to the bottom of the fourth. Nolan Spencer delivered a two-run double to give the Vikings a 5-3 edge.
Lawrence then pulled away over the final three innings. The Vikings scored three times in the fifth with the help of run-scoring singles from Reno Zemrak and Ortiz to build an 8-3 lead.
The Vikings struck for four runs in the sixth as McDonnell blasted a two-run homer, and Lawrence pushed out to a 12-3 lead.
Knox (9-15, 2-5) scored twice in the top of the seventh, but the Vikings closed the game out with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. A pair of walks helped jump-start the inning, and Weber and Holliday came through with run-scoring singles to push the lead to 10 runs.
Lawrence pounded out 18 hits against four Knox pitchers, and Stryker Davies took the loss in relief.
