Lawrence rally comes up short against MCLA

Patrick McDonnell went 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs batted in against Maine-Farmington.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Lawrence University baseball team rallied Thursday, but the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts hung on for a 14-11 nonconference win at Lake Myrtle Park.

Lawrence was down 9-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth, but the Vikings cut the lead to 12-11 before MCLA added a pair of insurance runs.

Patrick McDonnell, Clayton Agler and Spenser Ross all went 3-for-4 for the Vikings, and McDonnell drove in three runs. Agler had a pair of doubles, Ross had a double, and McDonnell and Rudy Mueller-Schrader both had triples. Nolan Spencer and Nick Pastrone both had a pair of hits, and Andrew Lauber drove in a pair of runs.

The Vikings were looking at an eight-run defiicit before scoring five times in the bottom of the fifth. Mueller-Schrader and McDonnell both had RBI triples in the inning, Agler had a run-scoring double and Ross and Pastrone both had run-scoring singles.

Lawrence trailed 12-6 before adding five runs in the seventh. Reno Zemrak and Nolan Spencer both had run-scoring singles in the inning, and Lauber's two-run single trimmed the lead to 12-11.

MCLA then picked up a pair of runs in the top of the eighth for the final margin.

Brendan Kelly worked the first five innings to get the win, and Mike Brady started and took the loss for the Vikings.
