DE PERE, Wis. -- The Lawrence University baseball team lost a lead late Sunday as St. Norbert College rallied for a 12-9 win in the opener of a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Van Alstine Field.
Lawrence led 6-5 in the third inning of the nightcap when the game was suspended by rain.
Lawrence (3-11, 0-3 MWC) had built a 9-7 lead in the top of the eighth, but Sean Ferraro hit a grand slam to cap a five-run eighth inning to give the Green Knights the win.
Lawrence got an RBI single from Lauber in the third and a run-scoring double from Patrick McDonnell in the fourth, but St. Norbert led 7-3 after five innings.
The Vikings struck for four runs in the seventh as Clayton Agler delivered a run-scoring double and Reno Zemrak picked up an RBI single in the inning. Lawrence then surged ahead with two runs in the top of the eighth as Lauber and Rudy Mueller-Schrader both collected run-scoring singles to give the Vikings a 9-7 lead.
Bryce Baspennickx worked one inning of relief to get the win, and Chris Shaw took the loss in relief.
