MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Lawrence University baseball team dropped a nonconference doubleheader to Augsburg University on Sunday at US Bank Stadium.
The Auggies won the opener 3-1 and took the nightcap 5-0.
In the first game, Lawrence (1-3) outhit Augsburg (4-1) 7-6, and Mike Brady went 2-for-2 for the Vikings. Rudy Mueller-Schrader and Jacob Charon both doubled, and Mueller-Schrader drove in Lawrence's lone run.
Rookie pitcher Preston Anderson was solid in his Lawrence debut. He went the distance, allowed six hits, struck out two and walked three.
Augsburg took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third, but the Vikings cut that in half in the top of the fourth. Reno Zemrak reached on an error and later scored on Mueller-Schrader's ground out to trim the margin to 2-1.
That's as close as Lawrence would get, but the Vikings loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth and had runners aboard in both the sixth and seventh.
In the nightcap, Augsburg's Dylan Irving and Austin Jerylo combined on a one-hit shutout. Lawrence's lone hit was Jacob Rosenberg's pinch-hit single in the seventh.
Augsburg scored twice in the second and three times in the fifth as Michael Duttlinger went 4.2 innings for the Vikings and took the loss.
