APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University football players Wasonu Allen and Jaxon Stratton were both selected as Midwest Conference Players of the Week.

Allen (Austell, Ga./South Cobb) was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week, and Stratton (Blanchard, Okla./Blanchard) was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Allen, a senior running back who won the honor for the first time in his career, ran 11 times for 121 yards and a touchdown in Lawrence's 28-0 victory at Grinnell College.

Allen, who averaged 11 yards per carry, ripped off a 47-yard touchdown run on Lawrence's first possession to give the Vikings a 7-0 lead. Allen also had a 46-yard run in the fourth quarter to set up Lawrence's final touchdown. The 100-yard rushing effort by Allen was the first for a Lawrence back since Allen ran for 101 yards against Grinnell in the 2018 season opener.

Stratton, who also was honored by the league for the first time, recorded a career-high 13 tackles and picked up an interception. A sophomore safety, Stratton had eight solo tackles, including 1.0 tackles for loss.

Stratton's second career interception came deep in Lawrence territory on Grinnell's final scoring chance to preserve the shutout. The shutout was the first for the Vikings in a season opener since the Vikings routed Northwestern (Wis.) College 33-0 to start the 1983 campaign.

Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings host Carleton College.
