MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Bryce Denham scored 18 points Saturday and Ben Peterson added 17 to lead the Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 76-68 nonconference victory over MSOE at the Kern Center.
Denham, a freshman forward, hit 6-of-12 shots from the floor, went 5-for-7 from the foul line and collected seven rebounds. Peterson hit a trio of three-pointers and pulled down five boards.
Lawrence (2-0) also got some nice contributions off the bench as George Mavrakis went 4-for-5 from the floor on his way to nine points and five rebounds. Abhishek Venkatesh added seven points, Mason Materna had six and Dylan Hamlin had four points and four rebounds for the Vikings.
Lawrence's bench players went 11-for-17 from the floor for a cool 64.7 percent.
Matthew Kirmse paced MSOE (0-1) with 16 points.
Lawrence grabbed an early double-digit lead with a 9-0 run in the first half. Hamlin, Mavrakis and Venkatesh scored nine straight points to move Lawrence's lead to 26-13.
MSOE chipped away at the lead and closed to within four points before Denham's layup gave Lawrence a 38-31 lead at the half.
Lawrence pushed the lead back to double digits at 53-43 on Materna's layup with 13:06 left. A few minutes later, Venkatesh's jumper gave Lawrence its biggest lead of the game at 62-47 with 10:46 remaining.
MSOE never got closer than seven points the rest of the way, and Lawrence went 7-for-8 from the foul line in the final 42 seconds to seal the win.
