APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team jumped out to a 19-point halftime lead Tuesday and cruised to an 83-65 nonconference victory over Silver Lake College at Alexander Gymnasium.
Lawrence's Jeremy Stephani scored 19 of his 23 points in the first half to lead three Vikings in double figures. Ben Peterson had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for Lawrence (3-0), and Bryce Denham hit 5-of-6 shots from the floor on his way to 10 points.
Lawrence led by as many as 27 points in the second half as 19 players saw action for the Vikings, who improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
Kymble Harris poured in 29 points off the bench for Silver Lake (1-7) as he hit 9-of-11 shots from the floor, including 7-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc.
Lawrence took control in the final eight minutes of the first half. The Vikings led 23-17 when Stephani buried a three-pointer to start a 17-7 run over the final 7:25 of the first half. Stephani scored nine points in that stretch, Peterson added six and Quinn Fisher finished it with a three-pointer with just four seconds left before the break.
Materna finished with nine points, and Mavrakis and rookie Darrion Cutler added six points apiece.
The Vikings piled up 19 assists on 33 baskets with Fisher and Stephani picking up three assists apiece. Eleven different players had an assist for the Vikings. Lawrence also dominated the glass by outrebounding the Lakers 41-24.
