STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team scored 13 consecutive points late in the game Wednesday and pulled away for a 73-56 nonconference victory over Lawrence University at Quandt Fieldhouse.
Lawrence (5-3) had closed to within five points before the Pointers (4-2) went on the decisive run during a five-minute span late in the game.
Ben Peterson and Abhishek Venkatesh scored 13 points apiece to pace the Vikings. Peterson hit three three-pointers and added two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Venkatesh came off the bench and went 6-for-9 from the floor.
Lawrence rookie center Dylan Hamlin had his biggest game of the season as he came off the bench to score 10 points and grab a game-high seven rebounds.
MJ Delmore led Stevens Point with 13 points, and Mark Nelson added 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Pointers pulled out to a double-digit lead at 25-15 with 6:47 left in the opening half and went on to lead 39-28 at the break.
Stevens Point led by as many as 14 points early in the second half, but the Vikings started chipping away at the lead.
Hamlin scored on consecutive layups to cut the lead to 58-50 with 8:36 left. Rookie forward Mason Materna followed with a three-point play to trim the margin to 58-53 with 7:32 remaining and complete a 7-0 Lawrence run.
The Pointers then went on their big scoring run as Nelson accounted for four of Stevens Point's 13 points to push the lead to 71-53 with 1:45 left.
