LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Lake Forest College men's basketball team pulled away midway through the second half Wednesday and held off Lawrence University for a 73-63 Midwest Conference victory at the Sports and Recreation Center.
The Foresters stretched their lead from three points to 13 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, and Lawrence could pull no closer than six points in the final minutes.
Aram Arslanian scored 23 points off the bench for Lake Forest (11-5, 7-2 MWC), and Danny Sotos had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
George Mavrakis came off the bench to pace Lawrence (9-6, 5-4) with 11 points. Quinn Fisher, Jeremy Stephani and Dylan Hamlin had nine points apiece for the Vikings, and Hamlin grabbed seven rebounds.
Lake Forest led by 13 points late in the first half, but Stephani scored the final three points of the half to trim the lead to 40-30 at the break. The Vikings then scored the first seven points of the second half on baskets from Bryce Denham and Stephani and a Stephani three-pointer to cut the lead to 40-37.
Lake Forest then put together an 18-8 run, capped by an Eric Porter layup, and led 58-45 with 9:42 left. Lawrence chipped away at the advantage, and Fisher's three-point play with 2:10 left cut Lake Forest's lead to 65-59.
That's as close as the Vikings would get as Lake Forest made its next two shots from the floor and connected on four consecutive free throws to seal the victory.
