APPLETON, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's basketball team got off to a quick start Wednesday and went on to an 82-53 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University at Alexander Gymnasium.
Ripon shot 66.7 percent (18-27) from the floor in the first half and jumped out to a 45-28 advantage at the half. Lawrence (11-10, 7-8 MWC) never threatened Ripon's large lead in the second second half.
Cal Schultz scored 19 points to pace Ripon (14-6, 11-4), and Trent Jones added 14 points.
Bryce Denham led the Vikings with 14 points.
The Red Hawks pulled away early with a 14-0 run that broke a 6-6 tie and gave Ripon a 20-6 lead with 11:27 left in the opening half. Lawrence trimmed the lead back to seven points three different times, but Ripon responded with nine unanswered points to grabe a 35-19 edge.
Ripon finished the first half with back-to-back three-pointers from Jones and Seth Kostroski to grab a 17-point lead at the half.
The Red Hawks opened the second half on an 11-4 run to push the lead to 56-30, and Lawrence never got closer than 24 points the rest of the way.
