Big second half pushes Ripon past Lawrence

RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College men's basketball team scored 52 second-half points Tuesday en route to an 88-62 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University at Weiske Gymnasium.

Ripon shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half, hitting seven three-pointers after the break, and pulled away after the game was tied 36-36 at the half.

Tyler Semenas led Ripon (16-6, 13-4 MWC) with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Jeremy Stephani paced the Vikings (11-12, 7-10) with 18 points and hit four three-pointers. Rookie forward Bryce Denham added 14 points, four steals and three rebounds for Lawrence.

Lawrence got off to a very hot start as the Vikings hit five of the first seven shots from the floor. Two three-pointers from Denham and triples from Stephani and Mason Materna helped the Vikings build a 14-3 lead with 15:31 left in the first half.

Ripon chipped away at the lead and finally tied the game at 36-36 on Trent Jones' three-pointer with 1:05 left in the half.

The Red Hawks then started the second half on a 12-4 run to take a 48-40 lead with 17:23 left. A George Mavrakis layup temporarily slowed Ripon, but the Red Hawks then went on a 14-2 outburst to take a 62-44 lead.

Lawrence didn't get closer than 15 points after that.
