APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team has won the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award.

The sixth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards, created by the NABC Committee on Academics, recognize outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2017-18 season. Lawrence posted a team GPA of 3.01 for the 2017-18 academic year.

This marks the fourth time in the six-year history of the award that Lawrence has been honored. The Vikings also won the Team Academic Excellence Award in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16. Lawrence had seven student-athletes -- seniors Jeremy Stephani, Evan McLaughlin and Eric Weiss, sophomores Joe Duero, Tyler Klug and Abhishek Venkatesh and freshman Alex DuVall -- all named to the Academic All-Midwest Conference team.

Lawrence finished sixth in the Midwest Conference this past season and compiled an overall mark of 11-13.
