SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team pulled away in the final five minutes Saturday to post a 74-62 win over UW-Superior at the Merrill Thompson Tip-Off Classic.

Four Vikings scored in double figures in the game at Mertz Mortorelli Gymasium. Abhishek Venkatesh paced Lawrence (1-1) with 15 points as he hit 5-of-7 shots from the floor.

Brad Sendell and George Mavrakis added 14 points apiece, and Bryce Denham had 10 for the Vikings. Sendell and Mavrakis both collected a team-high five rebounds.

Layups from Sendell and Mavrakis started the run, Venkatesh followed with a jumper and Mavrakis capped the outburst with a 3-pointer to give Lawrence a 70-60 edge with 3:20 remaining.

Superior never got closer than seven points after that, and the Vikings went 4-for-4 at the foul line in the final 39 seconds to seal the victory.

Lawrence shot 56.5 percent from the floor in the second half and hit on 53.2 percent of its shots for the game.
