APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team dropped a 78-68 Midwest Conference decision to league leader St. Norbert College on Thursday at Alexander Gymnasium.
The Green Knights broke open a tie game with a 15-4 scoring run midway through the second half, and Lawrence wasn't able to close the gap after that.
Bryce Denham scored 14 points to pace Lawrence, and George Mavrakis came off the bench to score 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. Brad Sendell added 11 points for the Vikings (10-10, 7-6 MWC) and pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
Joe Ciriacks paced St. Norbert (14-6, 12-1) with 27 points and went 7-for-13 on 3-pointers. Nolan Beirne added 19 points and nine rebounds for the Green Knights.
The game featured eight ties in the first half, and the Green Knights led 34-30 at the break. St. Norbert built a seven-point edge early in the second half before Lawrence got baskets from Quinn Fisher and Mavrakis, sandwiched around a pair of Denham free throws, to cut the lead to 42-41.
The game was tied at 47-47 when St. Norbert got a pair of 3-pointers from Drew Yetka and five points from Ciriacks as part of the decisive run that staked it to a 62-51 lead. Abhishek Venkatesh countered with a jumper for Lawrence to cut the lead to 62-53, but the Green Knights scored the next four points.
Lawrence didn't get closer than the final margin over the final five minutes.
