DE PERE, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team hung with Midwest Conference champion St. Norbert College for nearly 30 minutes Wednesday, but the Green Knights pulled away midway through the second half en route to a 90-62 win at the Mulva Center.
Brad Sendell scored a game-high 21 points to pace Lawrence, and Quinn Fisher added 14. Bryce Denham picked up 10 points and collected a team-high seven rebounds for the Vikings. The loss eliminated Lawrence from Midwest Conference Tournament contention.
Wade Geenen led St. Norbert (18-6, 16-1 MWC) with 20 points, and Drew Yetka added 18. Those two players combined to shoot 15-for-19 from the floor for the Green Knights.
Lawrence (11-13, 8-9) trailed by four at 51-47 following Fisher's layup with 13:44 remaining. Yetka countered with a jumper, and after a pair of Lawrence misses from beyond the arc, Yetka hit a 3-pointer and picked up a layup to give St. Norbert a 58-47 edge.
Fisher stopped Yetka's personal run with a three-point play to trim the lead to 58-50 with 10:07 remaining. St. Norbert countered with a 13-4 outburst over the next 4:13 to push its lead to 71-54.
Fisher's layup stopped that scoring run to cut the lead back to 71-56, but the Green Knights continued to pull away over the final five minutes.
The game was tight throughout the first half and well into the second. The teams traded the lead early, and Lawrence led by as many as four points at 23-19 midway through the first half.
The game was tied five times in the first half, and Lawrence led 32-31 after Denham's 3-pointer with 4:23 remaining before the break. St. Norbert finished the first half on a 10-2 run and led 41-34 at the half.
