DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball had a frigid shooting night and dropped an 85-60 nonconference decision to Centre College at the Daytona Shootout.
Lawrence shot just 39 percent from the floor, including 15.4 percent (4-26) from beyond the arc. The Vikings entered the game shooting 48 percent from the floor and 39 percent from 3-point range.
Brad Sendell scored 17 points and added five rebounds and two steals to pace Lawrence (5-3). Brandon Danowski and Julian DeGuzman added eight points apiece for the Vikings. Troy Mikaelian picked up five points off the bench and led the Vikings with six rebounds and five assists.
Jacob Bates had a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead Centre (8-2).
Sendell's layup with 12:47 left in the first half gave Lawrence its biggest lead at 13-10, but the Colonels went on a 14-2 run to grab a 24-15 lead with less than seven minutes left in the opening half. The Colonels led 41-28 at the half.
Centre (8-2) opened the second half by making six of its first eight shots from the floor and parlayed that into an 18-2 run and a 59-30 lead with 15:55 remaining.
Lawrence later went on a 10-2 run, capped by Sendell's 3-pointer, to trim the margin to 18 points at 65-47. Sendell scored eight points during that stretch and Mikaelian added the other two. That's as close as the Vikings would get as the Colonels stretched the lead over the final minutes.
Lawrence is back in action again on Saturday when the Vikings play Husson University.
