DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- Lawrence University men's basketball standout Brad Sendell matched his career high with 31 points Saturday, and the Vikings put together a strong defensive stand in an 83-60 nonconference victory over Husson University at the Ocean Center.

Sendell made 11-of-23 shots from the floor, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, and went 4-for-4 from the foul line. Sendell had set his scoring high of 31 in a victory at Monmouth College on Jan. 26, 2019.

Brandon Danowski and Bryce Denham also scored in double figures for the Vikings (6-3). Danowski added 16 points and Denham had 12, and both players tied for team honors with nine rebounds.

Justin Thompson paced Husson (4-6), located in Bangor, Maine, with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The game was tight until the Vikings pulled away in the final nine minutes. Lawrence held Husson without a point over the final 8:50 as the Eagles went 0-for-9 from the floor, 0-for-4 from the foul line and committed five turnovers in that stretch.

Sendell drained a pair of 3-pointers, sandwiched around a Husson triple which was its last basket of the game, to give the Vikings a 70-60 lead with 8:24 remaining.

Troy Mikaelian followed with a layup for the Vikings, and Sendell made another 3-pointer for a 75-60 edge with 6:51 left. After misses by both teams, Sendell added fastbreak layups on back-to-back possessions for a 79-60 lead with 3:39 remaining to seal the victory.

Sendell scored 18 of his 31 points in the second half as he went 4-for-6 from 3-point range after the break.

Husson grabbed an early 12-6 lead, but that didn't last as the Vikings scored the game's next seven points, capped by a Sendell 3-pointer, to take a 13-12 advantage.

The Eagles would push back and lead by as many as four points, but Lawrence took the lead back for good at 20-19 on Denham's layup with 10:14 remaining in the first half. Lawrence put together a burst capped by back-to-back layups from Sendell and Danowski in the final 1:48 to grab a 43-38 lead at the half.

Lawrence takes a break for the holidays and doesn't return to action until Jan. 3 at Illinois College.
