RIPON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team lost the battle on the boards Wednesday at Ripon College and lost 85-64 in a Midwest Conference game at Weiske Gymnasium.
Lawrence was a minus-26 in rebounding margin, and Ripon grabbed more offensive rebounds (22) than the Vikings had total rebounds (18). That translated into Ripon putting up 21 more shots than the Vikings and posting a 21-6 edge in second-chance points.
Brad Sendell paced Lawrence (7-5, 3-2 MWC) with 17 points, and Bryce Denham added 15 points. Brandon Danowski chipped in with seven points, six assists and four rebounds, and Quinn Fisher had five assists and four points.
Trent Jones led Ripon (7-5, 3-2) with 22 points, and Kyle Rutkowski grabbed 13 rebounds.
Lawrence led by four points early, but Ripon took the lead with 14:25 left in the opening half and never gave it back. The Red Hawks led by as many as 11 points before Sawyer Schlindwein's jumper cut the lead to 45-36 at the half.
After Ripon went back up by double digits, Lawrence cut the lead to 10 twice in the first six minutes of the second half. That's as close as the Vikings would get as Ripon would go on to lead by as many as 25.
