BELOIT, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's basketball team was edged 55-51 by Beloit College on Saturday in a Midwest Conference game at Flood Arena.
Frigid shooting doomed the Vikings as shot 31.4 percent (16-51) from the floor, including 23.1 percent (6-26) from 3-point range.
Brad Sendell paced Lawrence (8-9, 4-6 MWC) with 17 points, and he grabbed five rebounds. Brandon Danowski added 10 points, and Bryce Denham and Quinn Fisher picked up nine points apiece. Denham also had a game-high eight rebounds.
Michael Polakoski led Beloit (6-11, 4-6) with 14 points.
Beloit led by six points at the half and pushed the lead to 11 at 38-27 with 14:28 remaining. Danowski then hit a 3-pointer to start an 8-0 run for the Vikings.
After Danowski's triple, Sendell followed with a three-point play to trim the lead to 38-33. Fisher followed with a jumper at the 10:20 mark to cut the margin to 38-35.
Fisher's 3-pointer with 8:07 left cut the lead to 40-38 before Beloit increased the lead to 47-40. The Vikings bounced back again and went on an 8-1 run, capped by Sendell's jumper, to tie the game at 48-48 with 1:38 left.
It became a free-throw shooting contest after that as Beloit hit three foul shots to take a 51-48 lead. The Bucs then chose to foul Lawrence rather than have the Vikings attempt a game-tying 3-pointer.
Fisher and Polakoski traded free throws and Lawrence trailed 53-51 when Fisher intentionally missed a free throw. Beloit was able to grab the rebound and Polakoski added two more free throws for the final margin.
