APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's fencing team split four dual matches Saturday at the Lawrence Duals at the Buchanan Kiewit Wellness Center.

Lawrence posted a 16-11 win over the University of Wisconsin despite being in a 9-0 hole in sabre. The foil contingent of Nathan Schlesinger, Jack Calkwood and Alex Loundy swept Wisconsin, and the epee squad of Vinzenz Mayer, Noah Bradley and Cameron Maas were 7-2. The Vikings also downed the University of Iowa 17-1 as Schlesinger, Calkwood and Loundy again went 9-0. Mayer, Bradley and Jakub Nowak posted an 8-1 mark in epee.

The Vikings rallied against the University of Minnesota but came up one point short 14-13. Down 9-0 after sabre, Schlesinger, Calkwood and Loundy went 7-2 in foil, and Nowak, Mayer and Bradley were 6-3 in epee. Northwestern University posted a 13-11 win over Lawrence, but in the contested bouts, the Vikings had an 11-7 edge.

On the women's side, Lawrence won both of its matches with victories over Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Lawrence defeated Wisconsin 24-3 as the sabre squad of Allison Kim, Lexi Praxl and Samantha Hansen went 8-1 and the epee team of Carson Becker, Margaret Wright and Mia Wu were 7-2. Wisconsin did not have a foil contingent.

In a 23-4 win over Minnesota, the epee squad of Becker, Wright and Wu won six bouts, and the sabre contingent of Kim, Praxl and Hansen took eight bouts. Minnesota also did not field a foil squad.
