Four Vikings named to All-MFC team

APPLETON, Wis. -- Four Lawrence University athletes have been chosen for the All-Midwest Fencing Conference team.

Three Lawrence men's fencers, Nathan Schlesinger, Jakub Nowak and Vinzenz Mayer, and women's fencer Allison Kim were all selected.

Schlesinger, a senior from Cedar Park, Texas, was a second-team pick in foil. Nowak, a junior from Schaumburg, Ill., and Mayer, a sophomore from Wiesbaden, Germany, both received honorable mention in epee. A junior from Carmel, Ind., Kim received honorable mention in sabre.

Schlesinger recently finished sixth in foil at the MFC Championships in Columbus, Ohio, and has put together a record of 86-20 on the season. Nowak finished ninth at the conference championships and has a 79-24 record. Mayer grabbed a 12th-place finish at the MFC Championships and sports a 72-47 mark.

Kim led all Lawrence women at the MFC Championships with a 10th-place finish. She has compiled a 57-20 record on the season.

Lawrence returns to action on March 9 when it travels to the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships at Notre Dame.
