APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team battled with fifth-ranked UW-Eau Claire for two periods on Saturday, but the Blugolds pulled away in the third for a 4-0 nonconference win at the Appleton Ice Center.
Lawrence trailed just 1-0 heading into the third, but the Blugolds scored two goals in a span of 28 seconds to take control.
Greg Procopio stopped 34 shots, including 17 in the opening period, for the Vikings (0-6-0). Zach Dyment made 18 saves to earn the shutout for the Blugolds (8-1-0).
Eau Claire took a 1-0 lead just 4:57 into the game on Logan Von Ruden's goal. That was it for the scoring until the third period.
Lucas Kohls redirected a slap shot past Procopio 2:59 mark of the third to give the Blugolds a 2-0 edge. Braden Brown then scored at the 3:27 mark as hit shot from a tight side angle deflected off the side of Procopio's body and into the net for a 3-0 edge.
Simon Sagissor added a late goal to complete the scoring.
For the second straight night, Lawrence's penalty killers did a nice job as they held Eau Claire to 0-for-6 on the power play. The Vikings also went 0-for-6 on the man-advantage.
