GENEVA, Ill. -- Lawrence University gave up two goals late in the second period Friday as Aurora University pulled away for a 4-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
Lawrence had trimmed Aurora's lead to 2-1 with a goal midway through the second period, but the Spartans scored twice in the final 4:16 to pull out to a three-goal edge heading to the final period.
Lawrence had a 32-26 edge in shots, and that marks the second time in three games the Vikings outshot their opponent and lost.
Evan Cline made 22 saves for the Vikings, and Josh Boyko stopped 31 shots for the Spartans.
Aurora (9-10-0, 6-6-0 NCHA) led 2-0 after scoring a pair of first-period goals, the second coming with one second remaining in the period. Lawrence (4-13-1, 2-8-1) bounced back midway through the second period after a power play.
The Vikings didn't cash in on the man-advantage, but Danny Toycen scored just five seconds after the penalty expired. His third goal of the season, off assists by Cole Essig and Zach Briscoe, at the 10:42 mark cut the lead to 2-1.
Aurora pushed the lead to 3-1 after Drew Doyon scored on the power play at the 15:44 mark. The Spartans' Liam Stirtzinger added another goal just 43 seconds later to push the advantage to 4-1.
Aurora finished 1-for-5 on the power play, and the Vikings were 0-for-4.
