Vikings shut out by Marian

Lawrence fell 4-0 to Marian in the final game of the Battle of Highway 41 series.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- Lawrence University dropped a 4-0 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association decision to Marian University on Saturday night at the Blue Line Ice Center.

The win allowed Marian to retain possession of the Battle of Highway 41 trophy. The loss knocked Lawrence out of the hunt for the NCHA playoffs.

Hunter Vorva made 25 saves to pick up the shutout for the Sabres (11-8-4, 9-5-2 NCHA). Evan Cline made 31 saves for the Vikings (5-16-2, 3-11-2).

Marian scored late in the opening period on Jake Howie's goal for a 1-0 lead. Howie scored again early in the second period, and the Sabres' Blaine Caton got a short-handed goal late in the second for a 3-0 lead.

The Sabres added an empty-net short-hander in the final seconds to complete the scoring.
