APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University dominated the third period Friday night against Finlandia University, but the Vikings had to settle for a 1-1 overtime tie in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Appleton Ice Center.
Trailing 1-0, Lawrence outshot Finlandia 17-6 in the third period but did tie the game. Evan Ketner scored 5:05 into the third period off assists from Jordan Boehlke and Curtis Weyerhaeuser. Ketner took Boehlke's centering pass and fired it over the shoulder of Finlandia goaltender Marcus Gloss to tie the game at 1-1.
Lawrence peppered Gloss for the remainder of the period but couldn't get the go-ahead goal. The Vikings also forced Gloss to make a pair of saves in the first 30 seconds of the overtime to preserve the tie. Gloss collected 36 saves.
Lawrence put together a 37-20 edge in shots on goal.
The only goal allowed by Lawrence's Alex Mosquera came at the 11:06 mark of the opening period by Zach Erhardt. That goal snapped Mosquera's scoreless streak at 134:30. Mosquera finished with 19 saves.
After a slow start, the Vikings picked up the pace and nearly tied the game twice in the second period with a pair of shots ringing off the pipes. Lawrence had a 10-7 edge in shots in the second period.
The teams wrap up the series Saturday afternoon.
