Vikings edge St. Scholastica

Brian Tallieu made 36 saves to pick up his first collegiate victory.

DULUTH, Minn. -- Lawrence University scored three times in the opening period Friday and made that stand up in a 3-2 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory over the College of St. Scholastica at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Matt Meininger, Zach Olen and Jordan Boehlke all scored in the first period for the Vikings (4-8-1, 3-5-1 NCHA). St. Scholastica got one goal apiece in both the second and third periods.

Rookie goaltender Brian Tallieu picked up his first collegiate win for the Vikings. Tallieu stopped 36 shots, including 17 in the second period. 

Lawrence grabbed the lead just 2:08 into the opening period when Meininger scored off a pass from Danny Toycen. The Vikings quickly made it 2-0 when Olen, another rookie, scored his first collegiate goal at the 5:00 mark off assists by Toycen and Charles Stewart

The Vikings only needed 17 more seconds to grab a 3-0 lead. Boehlke scored his second goal of the season at the 5:!7 mark off assists from Jake Drinkard and Vincent Dekumbis.

Tallieu made nine saves in the opening period as Lawrence led 3-0 after one. St. Scholastica (5-7-1, 3-5-1) got on the board with 15:00 left in the second period, and the scored stayed that way until late in the third.

Parker Mismash scored with 2:50 left in the third period to cut the margin to 3-2, but the Vikings held off the pressure from an extra attacker late to seal the victory.

St. Scholastica went 0-for-2 on the power play, and Lawrence was 0-for-1 in a game that featured only five penalties.
