First-period decisive as Lawrence downed by No. 3 UWEC

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Lawrence University hockey team allowed three goals in the opening nine minutes of the first period Saturday in a 4-0 nonconference setback to No. 3 UW-Eau Claire at Hobbs Ice Arena.

The Blugolds (11-2-1) scored three times in a span of 4:06 to seize early control of the game. Eau Claire added a goal with seven minutes left in the game to complete the scoring.

Lawrence (5-9-1) couldn't light the lamp against Blugolds goaltender Zach Dyment, who made 19 saves to record the shutout. Brian Tallieu made the start for the Vikings and allowed the three first-period goals while making five saves. Evan Cline came on in relief and stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced.

Eau Claire had a 40-19 edge in shots.

Jake Bresser got the scoring started at the 4:03 mark of the first, and Andrew McGlynn scored exactly three minutes later to make it 2-0. Tyler Tomblerlin scored just 1:06 after that to make it 3-0.

Neither team had success on the power play as Lawrence went 0-for-3, and the Blugolds were 0-for-4.
