APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University scored a trio of third-period goals Friday to knock off No. 14 St. Norbert College 3-1 in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Appleton Ice Center.
Evan Cline stopped a career-high 66 shots for the Vikings (6-16-2, 5-12-2 NCHA). Cline stopped 19 shots in the opening period, made 23 saves in the second and 24 in the third.
Lodes broke a scoreless tie with a goal off assists from Vincent Dekumbis and Curtis Weyerhaeuser just 50 seconds into the third period. The Green Knights tied it on Mitchell Zambon's goal with 6:36 remaining, but Lawrence answered.
Lodes took a nifty pass from Drinkard and beat St. Norbert goaltender Colby Entz with 3:44 left to give the Vikings a 2-1 advantage.
St. Norbert pulled Entz with 2:09 left for an extra attacker, but the Green Knights were whistled for a penalty with just 1:17 remaining. Lawrence's advantage was short-lived as the Vikings were called for interference just four seconds later and Entz went to the bench again for an extra attacker.
After two near misses on the empty net, Drinkard sealed the win when he won a puck along the boards near the Lawrence blue line. He skated into St. Norbert zone and found the empty net with 35 seconds remaining for a 3-1 edge.
Entz made 26 saves for the Green Knights (13-9-2, 10-7-2), who saw their five-game win streak snapped and lost for just the second time in 15 games.
The series wraps up Saturday night at the Cornerstone Community Center.
