APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's soccer rookie Nicholas Jatta got his career off to a record-setting start and earned Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Jatta (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) posted a school-record four assists in Lawrence's 4-0 victory over Lakeland University in the season opener on Sept. 1 on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl. The four assists breaks the school record of three, which was held by five players.
Jatta assisted on all four of Lawrence's goals, and he didn't waste any time as his assist helped another rookie, Dylan Petrucci, score his first career goal just 1:18 into the match. Jatta then picked up the lone assist on Lewis Berger's goal in the 55th minute to stake Lawrence to a 2-0 lead.
The Vikings then sealed the victory as Jatta picked up assists on Jawad Weleidat's goals at the 58:04 mark and the 85:25 mark.
Jatta is the first Viking to be named the league's Offensive Player of the Week since Stephen Exarhos picked up the award on Oct. 19, 2010.
