Illinois College holds on to down Lawrence

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- Defense led the way as the Illinois College men's soccer team topped Lawrence University 2-1 in a Midwest Conference game on Sunday.

The Blueboys (5-5-0, 1-1-0 MWC) limited the Vikings (1-7-0, 0-2-0) to just one shot on goal.

Illinois College scored in the fourth minute and again in the 66th minute to grab a 2-0 lead. The Vikings cut the lead in half on Lewis Berger's penalty kick at the 79:06 mark but could get no closer.

Julien Riviere stopped seven shots for the Vikings, and Ty Clearwater picked up the win without making a save.
