APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team scored three second-half goals Thursday and pulled away for a 4-0 Midwest Conference win over Ripon College on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Jawad Wleidat scored a pair of second-half goals for the Vikings, and Brendan Vellenga collected a pair of assists. Will Nichols had a goal and an assist and drew a penalty kick that led to another goal.
Wedson Martins Kazambwe finished the scoring for the Vikings with his first career goal.
Hunter Lanton made three saves to earn the shutout for Lawrence. Cole Jurish made eight saves for Ripon. Lawrence enjoyed a 19-9 edge in shots, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Nichols got the scoring started after he made a long run down the left side and then fired the ball past Jurish at the 32:19 mark of the first half.
The Vikings led 1-0 at the half, but pulled away midway through the second half. Nichols was driving toward the goal but was taken down in the box to draw a penalty kick. Wleidat converted the penalty kick at the 65:17 mark to give Lawrence a 2-0 lead.
Lawrence made it 3-0 just over seven minutes later when Wleidat scored off a pass from Vellenga. Kazambwe completed the scoring at the 87:06 mark with a goal off a pair of nice passes from Nichols and Vellenga.
