Vikings battle back to tie Marian

Adrian Birge scored his first career goal for the Vikings in a 2-2 tie with Marian.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals Saturday to rally for a 2-2 overtime tie with Marian University at Smith Field.

Lawrence trailed 2-0 at the break, but the Vikings got goals from Sean McLaughlin and Adrian Birge to force overtime. Both teams had shots in the extra 20 minutes but neither was able to score.

Marian scored twice in the first 42 minutes and the score stayed that way until early in the second half. McLaughlin scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from Zachary Currie at the 55:16 mark to trim the margin in half.

Birge then scored his first goal for the Vikings off a nice feed from Mark Todd at the 62:55 mark and the game was tied at 2-2.

Hunter Lanton made seven saves for the Vikings, and Kevin Cervantes stopped two shots for Marian. The Sabres finished with a 19-9 edge in shots.
