APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University swimming standouts Eryn Blagg and Akio Yamamoto have swept Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Week honors.
Blagg (Omaha, Neb./Millard West), a senior, and Yamamoto (Wajima, Japan/Waseda University), a junior, won the awards in the wake of their performances at the Fun In The Sun Classic in Venice, Fla.
Blagg won two individual events and contributed to a winning relay team in Lawrence's 95-34 rout of Austin College. Blagg recorded the sixth-fastest time in the Midwest Conference in winning the 100-yard individual medley in 1:09.60. She also teamed with Mandy Marsh, Erin Lengel and Lizzy Garcia to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.85. Blagg also posted a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 27.06 seconds.
This was Blagg's first MWC Swimmer of the Week honor.
Yamamoto captured the award after winning an individual event and sparking a winning relay team as the Vikings were edged 77-52 by Austin.
Yamamoto took first in the 50-yard butterfly in 25.53 seconds, and he teamed with Anton Hutchinson, Travis Charlow and Tom Goldberg to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:35.88. Yamamoto also swam to third in the 50 freestyle in 23.90 seconds and was part of the 200 medley relay team that placed second in 1:46.19.
This also is the first MWC Swimmer of the Week honor for Yamamoto.
Lawrence is taking a break for the holidays and returns to action on Jan. 6 when the Vikings host UW-Oshkosh at Boldt Natatorium.
