Hutchinson win 1,650 freestyle title to pace Vikings at Private College Championships

KENOSHA, Wis. -- Lawrence University standout Anton Hutchinson won one event and finished second in another to pace the Vikings on Saturday at the Wisconsin Private College Championships at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center.

Hutchinson grabbed first in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:24.23 by more than two seconds over the second-place finisher from Carthage College. Hutchinson also took second in the 500 freestyle in 4:55.61.

Lawrence teammate Charlie Phillips took third in the 500 freestyle in 5:15.17, and Phillips also took third in the 200 butterfly in 2:12.63. The other top finisher for the Vikings was Tom Goldberg, who was third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.64.

The Lawrence men were second in the team standings with 103 points, and Carthage finished first with 329.

On the women's sde, Erin Lengel posted a pair of top-three finishes. Lengel took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.93 and was edged for the title to 0.04 seconds. She also grabbed third in the 50 freestyle in 25.53 seconds. Elise Riggle posted a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley in 5:00.05.

Lawrence also collected a pair of second-place finishes in relays. The 200 freestyle relay team of Eryn Blagg, Mandy Marsh, Bridget Duero and Lizzy Garcia finished second in 1:46.18. The 400 freestyle relay team of Lengel, Duero, Marsh and Emei Thompson swam to second in 3:50.28.

The Lawrence women finished third in the team standings with 117 points, and Carthage was first with 300 points.
