MADISON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's tennis team grabbed a pair of second-place finishes Sunday during the doubles competition at the Midwest Conference Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The No. 1 team of Bill Schuman-Kline and Connor Maloney and the No. 3 team of Evan Oriel and Matt Chan both finished second. The No. 2 team of Aidan Delgado and Cade Francour reached the championship semifinals.
Schuman-Kline and Maloney opened with an 8-1 pasting of Joe Mendala and Michael Connolly of Illinois College, and the Lawrence duo then topped Grinnell College's Sam Stickels and Michael Conlin-Brandenburg 8-3 in the semifinals. Cornell College's Hayden Dzurisin and Shoma Kishimoto topped Schuman-Kline and Maloney 8-3 in the title match.
Oriel and Chan pulled out a tight 8-6 victory over Illinois College's Jacob McQueen and Nazar Otunchiev in the quarterfinals before rolling to an 8-3 win over Lake Forest College's Brant Christensen and Louis Payne in the semifinals. Grinnell's Ishaan Tibrewal and Zach Lane downed Oriel and Chan 8-2 in the title match.
Delgado and Francour topped John Zanotti and Zach Simonet of St. Norbert College 9-8 in the quarterfinals before being eliminated with an 8-5 loss to Grinnell's Ben Cobin and George Kaslow.
