Arivella's singles win lifts Vikings over Carroll

Andrea Arivella's win at No. 6 singles lifted Lawrence to a 5-4 win over Carroll.

ELKHORN, Wis. -- Andrea Arivella's victory at No. 6 singles Saturday completed a comeback as the Lawrence University men's tennis team topped Carroll University 5-4 in a nonconference match at the Four Lakes Athletic Club.

Lawrence (2-0) trailed 2-1 after the doubles completion as the Vikings got an 8-2 win from Arivella and Matt Chan at No. 3.

The Vikings then won three matches as Connor Maloney, Cade Francour and Matt Chan all won to tie the match at 4-4. Arivella secured the victory for the Vikings as he defeated Ryan Strupp 6-4, 6-7, 1-0. Arivella won the super tiebreaker 10-8 to complete his victory.

Chan was impressive at No. 5 as he won 6-1, 6-1, and Francour was a 7-6, 6-4 winner at No. 3. Maloney had won the first set at No. 1 when Chayce Roecker retired.
