Vikings clinch MWC Tournament berth with win over St. Norbert

Connor Maloney was a winner at No. 1 singles and teamed with Cade Francour for a victory at No. 1 doubles against St. Norbert.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Lawrence University men's tennis team clinched a berth in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament with a convincing 7-2 victory over St. Norbert College on Wednesday at Western Racquet Club.

The Vikings are now 5-2 in the league with one match left and pushed their overall record to 10-8. 

Lawrence grabbed the early lead after the doubles competition as Connor Maloney and Cade Francour were 8-6 winners at No. 1 and Aidan Delgado and Andrea Arivella were 8-3 winners at No. 3.

The Vikings then rolled through the singles competition, taking five of the six matches.

Maloney won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, Delgado was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 2 and Francour won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Matt Chan grabbed a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5, and Cam Strawn was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 6 for the Vikings.

St. Norbert fell to 6-12 overall and 3-5 in the league.
