Delgado, Arivella grab second in doubles at MWC Championships

MADISON, Wis. -- Andrea Arivella and Aidan Delgado led the way for the Lawrence University men's tennis team on Sunday with a second-place finish in the doubles competition at the Midwest Conference Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Playing No. 3, Arivella and Delgado reached the championship match before falling to George Kaslow and Zach Lane of Grinnell 8-1. The Lawrence duo opened play with an 8-0 victory over Monmouth College's Alex Martin and Nicholas Robertson in the quarterfinals. Arivella and Delgado then topped St. Norbert College's Matt LaViolette and Jordan Crump 8-7. Lawrence won the tiebreaker 7-5 to earn a spot in the title match.

The No. 2 team of Evan Oriel and Matt Chan started their day with an 8-6 win over St. Norbert's Luke Andrekus and Alex Vandenberg in the quarterfinals. Oriel and Chan then fell to Lake Forest College's Aidan Burke and Chase Garber 8-5 in the semifinals.

The No. 1 team of Connor Maloney and Cade Francour lost their opening match 8-2 to Lake Forest. Maloney and Francour bounced back to beat Ripon 8-2 in the consolation semifinals and then topped Joe Shie and Zach Harris of Monmouth 8-6 in the consolation final.
