Francour wins MWC's Elite 20 award

Lawrence's Cade Francour was the MWC Elite 20 award winner for men's tennis.

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's tennis standout Cade Francour has been named the Midwest Conference's Elite 20 award winner.

The award goes to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average competing at their respective Midwest Conference championship.

Francour (Oshkosh, Wis./North), a junior, has a 3.87 grade point average and is a biochemistry major. Francour also has earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete award and is a member of the Academic All-Midwest Conference team.

The son of Lawrence coach Steve Francour, Francour had a fine 2019 season as he led the team with a 15-7 singles record while primarily playing at No. 3. He teamed with Connor Maloney for a 13-11 record at No. 1 doubles.

Francour helped his team to the championship match of the Midwest Conference Tournament as Lawrence finished second, its best finish in the league since 2013. He went on to reach the conference championship semifinals at No. 3 singles and teamed with Maloney to win the consolation title at No. 1 doubles.
