Both tennis teams, 10 individuals earn honors for academic achievement

Both Lawrence tennis teams and 10 student-athletes were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

APPLETON, Wis. -- Both Lawrence University tennis teams and 10 student-athletes have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for academic achievement.

The Vikings earned the All-Academic Team award, and it is the sixth consecutive year that both Lawrence teams collected the honor. To be eligible, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 for the 2018-19 academic year. The women's team posted a 3.56 GPA, and the men were at 3.54.

Six Lawrence men's player were chosen as ITA All-Academic Scholar Athletes, and four of the women's team members also earned the honor. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner and have a minimum 3.50 GPA for the 2018-19 academic year.

Sophomore Evan Oriel (Madison, Wis./West), a chemistry major, led the way for the men's Scholar Athletes with a 4.0 GPA for the year. Junior Aidan Delgado (Torrevieja, Spain), a chemistry major, had a 3.84 GPA.

Juniors Cade Francour (Oshkosh, Wis./North) and Andrea Arivella (Belluno, Italy) both had a 3.75 GPA. Francour is a chemistry and biochemistry major, and Arivella is a government major.

Junior Yang Zhao (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou), an economics major, checked in with a 3.67 GPA, and junior Connor Maloney (Madison, Wis./Edgewood), a biochemistry major, had a 3.50 GPA. 

Seniors Annie Harincar (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) and El Goblirsch (Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels) were joined on the women's side by first-year students Morgan Fisher (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and Shirley Xu (Korla, China/New Hampton School, N.H.) as Scholar Athletes.

Harincar is an English major with a 3.94 GPA, and Goblirsch is a biochemistry major with a 3.89 GPA. Fisher has a 3.91 GPA and Xu has a 3.70 GPA, and both are undecided on a major.

The Lawrence men made the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and finished second in the league. The Lawrence women open their season Aug. 30 when they host UW-La Crosse.
