Nichols wins pair of events to pace Lawrence at Red Hawk Invitational

RIPON, Wis. -- Lawrence University sprinter Will Nichols raced to a pair of victories on Saturday to lead the Vikings at the Red Hawk Invitational at the Willmore Center.

Nichols won the 60 meters in 7.17 seconds to beat out St. Norbert College's Braxton Thompson, who was second in 7.25. Nichols raced to first in the 200 meters in 23.23 seconds to beat St. Norbert's Nic Greenlaw, who was second in 23.31.

Nichols also grabbed second in the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, 2.75 inches. 

Led by Nichols, the Vikings finished fourth in the team standings with 62 points.

Other top finishers for the Vikings included Josh Janusiak and Joe Kortenhof. Janusiak was second in the mile in 4:31.93, and Kortenhof took third in 4:32.52. Ben Schaefer grabbed third in the 3,000 in 9:15.92, Dan Sandacz was fourth in the 60 hurdles in 9.59 seconds and Mik Patel took fifth in the 800 in 2:01.49.

Gabe Baker placed sixth in the shot put with a heave of 40-6, and he took sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 40-0.

On the women's side, sprinters Fanita Robins and Nora Robinson led the way as they finished second and third, respectively, in the 60 meters. Robins was second in 8.34 seconds, and Robinson was third in 8.36.

The Vikings went 3-4-5 in the 5,000 with Margaret Huck taking third in 20:00.07. Erin Schrobilgen was fourth in 20:11.54, and Christina Sedall was fifth in 20:34.29. Lawrence's 4x200 relay team was third in 1:54.91.

The Lawrence women were fifth in the team standings with 54 points.
