Janusiak, Kortenhof post 1-2 finish in 10,000 to pace Vikings on opening day of MWC Championships

MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Lawrence University track and field stars Josh Janusiak and Joe Kortenhof finished 1-2 in the 10,000 meters Friday to lead the Vikings at the Midwest Conference Championships at Zorn Memorial Stadium.

Janusiak won the 10,000 in 32:34.20 to claim his second straight championship in the event. This marks the fourth conference track title for Janusiak, who has two outdoor crowns to go with two championships indoors. Kortenhof ran neck-and-neck with Janusiak and finished second in 32:44.09.

Janusiak and Kortenhof cruised to the win by more than 33 seconds over the third-place finisher.

The Vikings had one more placewinner on Friday as Gabe Baker grabbed fourth in the discus with a toss of 127 feet, 10.75 inches.

Lawrence is in sixth place in the team standings with 23 points, and Monmouth College leads with 91 points.

On the women's side, Hannah Kinzer paced the Vikings by grabbing fourth place in the 10,000 meters in 40:31.66. Two other Vikings placed as well as Janey Degnan took seventh in the pole vault with a height of 7-8, and Kate Kilgus was eighth in the 1,500 meters in 5:04.37.

Lawrence is eighth in the team standings with eight points, and St. Norbert College leads with 64.
